Mayor Mare Seapony

I have been kind of putting any My Little Pony Amigurumi on the back burner due to an illness, and I am so happy to announce that she is complete! Not only did I go back and forth between finishing a regular pony pattern, but I couldn't help letting myself be a little more creative. And I have overcome my own hurdle by posting the pattern for sale. Take a look!

Mayor Mare Seapony is a respected figure within the MLP world. Her dyed hair, golden framed glasses and fantastically shapen bangs make for a character you won't soon forget. But what if she were in a underwater world, instead? This is how I'd dream she'd appear.

 

She has been fashioned with her professional collar and fashionable ruffled tie in an emerald green. And, she won't lose her glasses as she descends into bubbles under the sea. Mayor Mare enjoys fluttering about with her fins, over natural reefs and under sunken boats.

Larry the Cucumber from VeggieTales Amigurumi

Today my daughter, who happens to be sick with a cold, snuggled on the couch with me and we enjoyed some new videos from VeggieTales on Netflix. We enjoyed Big Idea's newer Celery Night Fever, Veggies in Space: The Fennel Frontier and The League of Incredible Vegetables. It was a day full of fiber and roughage, see what I did there?

With a little encouragement from my husband, I decided to make a Larry the Cucumber crocheted Amigurumi plushie. I found a picture of him from a movie, and modeled him after it. I specifically created the bottom to be more narrow than the top of his head. If you view his body, you'll see that's how he is shaped. He also has eyelids, a 3D nose and plush eyes.

The finished product stands at about 10 inches tall, and 3 inches wide, crafted specifically with 100% cotton yarn. His eyes and mouth (and tooth!) are felt. Larry's nose is crocheted piece, unlike several of the flat noses on other handmade cucumber softies. But don't get confused, he is a cucumber, not a pickle!

Young Granny Smith Crochet Amigurumi

Since My Little Pony is all the craze, I've created a young Granny Smith pony with all the accessories. Of course, this was my first attempt at my own pattern, and I absolutely love how it turned out. A pattern may be coming soon if there are enough requests!

 

Her body needs some improvement, but I used tips I've learned from creating Amigurumi to put together pieces of her body and hair. I always create the head first, followed by the ears, body and legs. I'm picky in the way that I feel each piece should be connected to the next as soon as it's finished, but I should probably streamline this to become more productive.

 

Granny's hair was the most creative and enjoyable piece on my part. Because we don't really get a good look at the back of young Granny Smith, without her bonnet on, we don't know too much about her hair. Since I am a big fan of french braids, I decided to incorporate an inside out french braid for fun.

 

I'm a huge fan of tiny details, which is why I went the route of embroidered eyes. I order my felt from a local individual, and use colored cotton floss to bring life to all my creatures. Granny's eyes were done in an amber ombre and the truly are my favorite of all that I've done.

 

No southern belle is complete without her bonnet. Young Granny's red frilly bonnet is completely crocheted, and can be unattached from her head for broader playing capabilities, as well as safer sleeping arrangements if your little ones take her to bed.

 

All dressed up with nowhere to go, our pony is decked out from nose to hoof. She has her previously mentioned bonnet, apple themed frilly kerchief, and baby blue saddle bags. Granny can carry all her necessities to and from the market with ease.
